Commissioner Barnier and members of the European Parliament awarded prizes to the winners of the "REAL Fake" competition for schools. This competition was a first step in a larger public awareness campaign that is being launched by the European Union to make Europeans more aware of the dangers of counterfeit and pirated goods and their harmful effects on consumers and the economy.
In order to advance swiftly in completing the necessary reforms to ensure a safe and stable financial system in Europe, the European Commission has launched two consultations in the area of financial services.
On 7 June 2010 the recently created SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) Council met for the first time, taking a major step forward in the realisation of an integrated market for payments in euro.
As part of its work on preventing a future crisis and strenghtening the financial system, the European Commission has put forward a proposal on Credit Rating Agencies (CRA) and launched a public consultation on reforming corporate governance in financial institutions. Furthermore, it has adopted a Communication where it commits itself to move swiftly in completing the necessary reforms to ensure a safe and sound European financial system.
