Commissioner László Andor visited Bódvalenke, Hungary to celebrate the International Romani Day on 5 April.
Celebrations included music and dancing performances on the streets of the village, introducing visitors to Roma culinary arts and the works of local artisans. The Albert Hall of Bódvalenke hosted the exhibition “The Heidegger Story – Roma Art and European Culture”.
After the official celebration Commissioner Andor met local and regional Roma leaders and representatives of major NGOs with Roma integration programmes.
Bódvalenke is a 95% Roma village, where Roma painters from Hungary and other European countries painted murals on the walls of the houses. It has since then become known as the Fresco Village.
