Commenting on the main findings of OEDC's latest report on Migration, Commissioner László Andor stressed that migration is essential "to achieve the employment and poverty-reduction targets of the EU's Europe 2020 Strategy. He added: "Increasing intra-EU mobility and better organising migrant inflows, based on labour market needs is invaluable to raising productivity, competitiveness, economic growth and ultimately employment".
Taking part in the first meeting of Employment and Social policy Ministers under the Polish Presidency, in Sopot, Commissioner László Andor stressed that "budgetary constraints should not have a negative impact on jobseekers". He underlined in particular the need for more and better coordination between public employment services.
Speaking straight after the positive vote by the European Parliament on the 2012 European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations, László Andor, EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion welcomed the news saying: "This vote clears the way for a European Year that will help change the way we see and manage the future of our ageing societies".
