Interview with CNBC: "Lowering competition standards will not help us exit the crisis"

Vice-President Almunia did the "ring the gong" to open trading on European markets. He also gave a short interview to CNCB in which he speaks about the prohibition of the Greek merger and how this remains "an exception" as Commission and companies generally find a solution for those mergers that would reduce choice and increase prices for consumers. He also defends lowering the application of competition rules during the crisis would not help the European industry, contrary to what some may say. We need companies to be innovative and efficient to be competitive on a world scale and competition helps them achieve this goal."
