Creating change [08-12]
Gilles Mingasson – The End of Shishmaref, photography, 2005
This French-born photojournalist documented the lives of the 600 inhabitants of Shishmaref, a small Alaskan village near the Arctic Circle. Every year, the sea grinds away at their island, destroying houses and the shoreline. They are "poised to be among the first global warming refugees of the 21st century," says Mingasson.
