Bangkok meeting prepares Montreal Protocol conference on ozone layer
- Start date : 24/06/2013 00:00:00
- End date : 28/06/2013 23:59:59
The Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on protection of the ozone layer will meet from 24 to 28 June 2013 in Bangkok. This session aims to prepare the 25th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on 21-25 October 2013.
The agenda of the Bangkok meeting notably includes alternatives to ozone-depleting substances and proposals to include hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) under the Montreal Protocol in order to achieve a global phase-down of these gases. The European Union is convinced that the Montreal Protocol is the best instrument to address HFCs. Throughout the meeting the European Union will therefore seek to promote constructive discussions on how best to achieve a global phase-down of HFCs.
The OEWG meeting will be followed on 29-30 June by an international technology conference on Advancing Ozone & Climate Protection Technologies: Next Steps. This conference will bring together industry, governments, environmental organisations, and academia. It will give them the opportunity to share information and updates on technologies, policies, standards, and the availability of climate-friendly alternatives to ozone-depleting substances.
The European Commission and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC) are among the sponsors of this conference.
