22 February 2012 Stakeholder meeting on CO2 emissions from Heavy-Duty Vehicles

The Directorate General for Climate Action held a Stakeholder meeting on CO2 emissions from Heavy-Duty Vehicles (HDV) on 22 February in Brussels. The aim was to get input from stakeholders in view of a Commission strategy to reduce emissions from Heavy-Duty Vehicles, due to be adopted in 2013. A large number of HDV manufacturers, component suppliers, transport operators, logistics companies and NGOs, as well as a number of representatives from Member States attended the event.

Stakeholders were invited to provide their views on:

  • the ways and scope for reducing CO2 emissions from Heavy-Duty Vehicles. This discussion was introduced by a presentation of the findings of a recent study by TIAX consultants on the EU greenhouse gas reduction potential for Heavy-Duty Vehicles.
  • policy options that could support the goal of reducing HDV fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Before the completion of the ongoing Impact Assessment a second stakeholder meeting is foreseen in June or July 2012.
