A modern administration

“A modern administration” can mean different things to different people. However, at the Commission, we believe that it is an administration based on the principles of efficiency, transparency and accountability.

Over the past six years, the Commission and its staff have been engaged in the task of overhauling its administrative systems and procedures, the management of financial and human resources, and the way in which it plans and programmes its activities. This resulted in the most radical internal modernisation since the European Commission was established in 1958.
