CSS - Free and fast advice on your European right

  Homepage

You're moving around Europe - to work, live, study or retire - and wondering about your rights:

  • can I travel with my non-EU spouse to another EU country?
  • if I move to another country, when do I have to register my car there?
  • can I receive my pension there?
  • if I want to work, do I need to get my qualifications (obtained in different country) recognised there?

The Citizens' Signpost Service (CSS) is a team of independent legal experts providing free and personalised advice on your rights in the EU - in your own language and within a week of your request.

You can expect CSS to:

  • clarify the European law that applies in your case
  • explain how you can exercise your EU rights and obtain redress
  • signpost you to a body that can offer further help if needed

CSS can also advise on problems you may have as a consumer.

Not all questions are eligible for CSS.

How CSS can help you
Some examples:

A British person wants to travel with her non-EU husband from one EU country to another, where she has a family home - but is having difficulties getting a visa for him.

Thanks to advice from the CSS, her spouse is able to travel without undue formalities.
An Austrian holding a UK diploma as a dental technician is told he cannot set up his business in Austria.

The CSS tells him about the relevant formalities and the documents to be produced, and directs him to the Austrian authority that can help him further.
