The revision of the Work Programme 2011 has been adopted the 2 September 2011 integrating the grant awarded to the Auschwitz - Birkenau State Museum.

An additional amount of 4.000.000 € will be allocated through the Active European Remembrance Action of the "Europe for Citizens" programme in the form of a direct contribution to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.

This commemorative site was the largest of the concentration camps complexes and as such is a key place of our European collective memory and a sign of warning of the tragic consequences of extreme ideologies and denial of human dignity.

The grant will be used for financing the preservation and renovation of movable and immovable assets of Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, namely but not exclusively:

• renovation of the premises of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum;
• renovation of former inmates barracks;
• conservation of objects belonging to the former inmates of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp such as suitcases;
• modernization of storage of the suitcases of former inmates;
• developing the system of early fire detection and fire extinguishing system to protect movable objects;
• digitalization of archival objects;
• archeological and geological research necessary for the renovation of the former inmates barracks.
