My Road to Europe starts at home: Competition winners

The European Commission is pleased to announce the winners of the “My Road to Europe starts at home” school competition, organised by Directorate General for Budget. On 15 March 2012 a Grand Jury composed of EU Budget, language and communication experts gathered to make the ultimate decision about the competition winners. Their role was not easy, as the competition finalist entries were of very high standard. The youth who ventured into contemplating and presenting EU budget-related topics did a great job, and the time and efforts they have invested are extremely appreciated.

The jury assessed the finalist entries according to the competition evaluation criteria. The winners, who impressed with their creative approaches to propose essays and presentations, showed a good understanding of the EU budget, its functioning and its influence our everyday lives.

However, after a heated debate the Jury agreed on the following winners:

English section:

Competition entry ID 43; essay; presentation; authors: Maciej, Aleksandra, Aleksandra, Jakub; coordinating teacher: Przemysław Oniszczuk

French section:

Competition entry ID 71; essay; presentation; authors: Klaudia, Paulina, Rafał; coordinating teacher: Marzanna Kędzierska

German section:

Competition entry ID 78; essay; presentation; authors: Marcin, Dominika; coordinating teacher: Slawomir Telega

Special prize for the most original presentation:

Competition entry ID 66; essay; presentation; authors: Angelika, Weronika, Alicja; coordinating teacher: Malgorzata Zajaczkowska and Marzena Golebiewska

The four winning student teams and their coordinating teachers will be invited to Brussels to attend the award ceremony, scheduled on 7 May 2012. They will also have the opportunity to meet Mr. Janusz Lewandowski, EU Commissioner for financing programming and budget, and EU Budget experts.

We congratulate all the winners and look forward to welcoming them in Brussels in May 2012.
