"My Road to Europe starts at home" youth competition closes

The "My Road to Europe starts at home" youth competition closed on 31 January 2012. With 81 entries, the competition has been an opportunity to encourage secondary school students in Poland to work on a mini-project that focused on the EU Budget. The main objective of the competition was to strengthen, enhance and support financial education by raising awareness about the EU Budget and how it influences the day-to-day life of Europeans.

For about three month, teams comprising students and their teachers were invited to carry out a mini-project, the outcome of which was to write a team essay and produce a presentation on the EU Budget.

By 31 January 2012, the competition deadline, 81 projects have been received. Around 300 students and teachers took part in this exercise. The organisers of the competition would like to thank all participants for their contributions. Those who have not managed this time we invite to follow our web pages since we plan to organise this competition on a regular basis.

The evaluation of the competition entries is being carried out by a group of judges, in two phases, in February and March 2012.

In the first evaluation phase, the judges will select up to ten best projects in each language section. This shortlist will therefore include a maximum of 30 finalist teams who will be announced on the competition website. The finalist teams will receive prizes by post.

In the second evaluation phase, the judges will select four winning teams, the best entry to each language section of the competition - English, French and German – and the most original presentation to be awarded a special prize. The four winning teams together with their coordinating teachers will be invited to attend a ceremony awards in Brussels, around 9 May 2012.

All participants in the competition will receive EU symbolic presents, a certificate of participation and a "thank you" letter signed by Mr Janusz Lewandowski, Commissioner for Financial Programming and Budget.

Further information about the competition finalists and winners will be published on this website.
