Commission is raising awareness about EU budget among Polish secondary school students

On the occasion of the Polish presidency of the European Union, the Commission's Directorate General for Budget is organising a youth competition called My Road to Europe starts at home. The competition will be presented to the target audience in the period between the 3rd and 10th November 2011 as a part of the EU's Back to School programme. The main objective of this initiative is to strengthen, enhance and support financial education by raising awareness about the EU Budget and how it influences the day-to-day life of Europeans.

The competition is open to all secondary school students in Poland. Teams of two to four, coordinated by a teacher, jointly write an essay on one of the three given budget-related topics, and summarize its conclusions in a presentation. The competition entries should be in one of the EU working languages, i.e. English, French or German, and submitted online by midnight of 31st January 2011.

For each language, ten best contributions will be shortlisted as finalist entries, out of which a jury will select a winner of each language section. In addition to that, a special Grand Prix will be awarded to the authors of the most original presentation. The four winning teams and their coordinating teachers will win a trip to Brussels to attend the award ceremony which will take place in the first half of May 2012.
