Within the context of the 'Europe Day' when EU institutions traditionally open their doors to the public, over 12 000 citizens visited the European Commission's Berlaymont building, on 6 May.
DG Budget's popular voting game invited visitors again to vote for their three preferred spending categories for EU funds. 2213 guests took part in this challenge.
'Education and Culture' won for the fifth year in a row with 15.3% of the votes. Second place was awarded to the category 'Energy, climate change and environment' with 14.4%, followed by 'Jobs and effects of globalisation' with 11.5 % of the votes.
Visitors could also listen to presentations and ask questions about the EU budget, as well as test their knowledge via an interactive quiz.
Guests suggested their own ideas of EU-funded projects and indicated them on an 'EU Results' map. DG Budget thus received 376 suggestions displaying a wide variety of project - from ideas to improve infrastructure in Sicily to the support of education in Africa.
A big thank you to all visitors who came to the EU Budget stand. We hope to see you again next year!
