BEPA’s work is not necessarily linked to the day-to-day workings of Commission policies, but more to developing medium and long-term trends with relevance to today’s world. The focus is on cultivating and taking thinking further, with input from in-house analysts and external experts. With this aim in mind, BEPA prepares reports on a range of policy-related topics – be they political, economic or social – as well as conferences and workshops. The Bureau is the link to major thinkers in Europe and draws on these various strands of input to compile valuable expertise.
In order to attract leading experts from academia, international organisations, governments and top research institutions, BEPA has established a visitors programme. The visitors’ areas of expertise cover a wide range of topics, including the Europe 2020 strategy for smart; sustainable and inclusive growth; strategic foresight (society, economy, governance); strategic partnerships and external relations of the European Union; science, technology and innovation; genuine fiscal, economic and monetary union; institutional issues, democracy and legitimacy; culture and creativity.
Conferences and workshops
BEPA is an important tool in the President’s communication activities. To promote debate on policy and societal issues between policy-makers, experts and society, the Bureau organises a variety of conferences, seminars and workshops. Renowned experts are invited to discuss important topics and offer advice and food for thought. Target audiences range from specialists to the general public.
To experience so that we can better understand and understand to better advise: this is the principle that guides us during meetings organised by BEPA. Our meetings encourage open and thoughtful exchanges that daily nourish our thinking.
