Task Force Kosovo (TAFKO) - 1999
The European Commission Task Force for the reconstruction of Kosovo (TAFKO) began operations in July 1999 in Pristina. It was established to start immediate work on the medium and long term reconstruction of Kosovo. Its budget is 137 Meuro (ECHO - the European Community Humanitarian Office - is providing 68,5 Meuro to Kosovo in 1999). It will be replaced by the end of 1999 by a European Agency for Reconstruction which, it is envisaged, will have a budget of 500 million euro per year for the period 2000-2002. The Task Force works closely in a co-ordinated approach for the relief of suffering and restoration of the province with UNMIK and KFOR. The stockshots illustrate 6 priority areas of operations undertaken by TAFKO : medical sector, power generation, customs services, housing reconstruction, village employment and de-mining.
