Conseil "Affaires économiques et financières", 3454e session: conférence de presse conjointe de Jeroen Dijsselbloem, ministre néerlandais des Finances, et Pierre Moscovici, membre de la CE
Pierre Moscovici, Member of the EC in charge of Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs, and Jeroen Dijsselbloem, Dutch Minister for Finance, President in office of the Council of the EU and President of the Eurogroup, held a joint press conference following the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) meeting on 8 March 2016 in Brussels. Pierre Moscovici welcomed the political agreement reached by the Member States on the automatic exchange of tax-related financial information of multinational companies, known as country-by-country reporting. The new rules will apply to multinational companies which operate cross-border in the EU. Once implemented, all Member States will have the information they need to protect their tax bases and to effectively address companies that try to escape paying their fair share of taxes where they make their profits. The new rules are a key part of the Anti-Tax Avoidance Package adopted by the European Commission on 28 January 2016. The Ministers discussed the Commission’s Country Reports, which are an important milestone in the European Semester. The detailed analysis of the economic, fiscal, social and structural situation in each Member State will form the basis for the adoption of the Commission’s Country-Specific Recommendations in May. The Council also adopted conclusions on fiscal sustainability, as well as on the strengthening of a code of conduct aimed at eliminating measures that can create situations of unfair tax competition.
