Brussels Forum of The German Marshall Fund of the United States with the participation of Catherine Ashton
On 24 March 2012, Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, together with Mahmoud Jibril, Former Chairman of the Executive Board of the National Transitional Council of Libya, Amine Gemayel, former President of Lebanon and Tim Pawlenty, former Governor of Minnesota, attended the German Marshall Fund’s seventh annual Brussels Forum, moderated by Amy Kellogg, Senior Foreign Affairs Correspondent of Fox News Channel (FNC). This session dealt with Middle East and North Africa's situation after the revolution and its main guiding questions focused on the success of the Tunisian model, the force of the Gulf Cooperation Council, the regional implications of the Arab uprisings, the European eventual need of a specific policy tool concerning the region, the results of the reforms as regards regime changes in several Arab states, and the way Europe and the United States will adapt to having former autocratic allies be replaced with new partners whose democratically legitimized policies will probably conflict with some Western positions.Brussels Forum is an annual high-level meeting of North American and European political, corporate, and intellectual leaders to address pressing challenges currently facing both sides of the Atlantic. Participants include Heads of state, senior officials from the European Union institutions and the Member States, U.S. Cabinet officials, Congressional representatives, Parliamentarians, academics, and media.
