Extracts from the read-out of the weekly meeting of the Juncker Commission by Maroš Šefčovič, Jyrki Katainen, Vice-Presidents of the EC, Violeta Bulc, and Elżbieta Bieńkowska, Members of the EC
On 6 June 2018, Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Energy Union, Jyrki Katainen, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness, Violeta Bulc, Member of the EC in charge of Transport, and Elżbieta Bieńkowska, Member of the EC in charge of Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, gave a press conference following the weekly meeting of the Juncker Commission. For the next long-term EU budget 2021-2027, the EC proposed to create the InvestEU Programme, bringing EU budget financing in the form of loans and guarantees under one roof. The European Commission is also proposing increased funding to connect Europeans with high-performance infrastructure, with a renewed 'Connecting Europe Facility' and a budget of €42.3 billion to support investments in the European infrastructure networks for transport (€30.6 billion), energy (€8.7 billion) and digital (€3 billion). In addition, the Commission is also proposing to devote €16 billion to help maintain and further enhance the EU's leadership in space. Space technology, data and services have become indispensable in the daily lives of Europeans and for Europe to pursue its strategic interests. The new EU Space Programme will invest more in space activities, adapting to new needs and technologies, while reinforcing Europe's autonomous access to space.
