Participation of Dimitris Avramopoulos, Member of the EC, in the Celebrations of the entry into force of the Frontex headquarters' agreement with Poland: ceremony
Dimitris Avramopoulos, Member of the EC in charge of Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, participated in the signing ceremony of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency Headquarters Agreement (FRONTEX) in Warsaw. The signature of the Agreement is an important step in the roll-out of the Agency and ensures a continued progress towards its full operationalisation. Building on the foundations of Frontex, the new Agency, proposed by the Commission in December 2015, was agreed by Member States in record time and launched in October 2016. Currently, the Agency is assisting Member States with around 1,500 border guards providing support at different sections of the EU external borders, complementing the existing national capacities. Its joint operations on land and at sea are supporting front line Member States to better manage migration and secure the EU's external borders, having contributed to saving hundreds of thousands of lives in the Mediterranean. This video shows the whole report of Dimitris Avramopoulos in Warsaw, the symbolic ceremony of the raising flags in front of the Frontex buildings, extracts of the speeches during the signing ceremony in the presence of Beata Szydło, Polish Prime Minister, and extracts of the press conference with Mariusz Błaszczak, Polish Minister for the Interior, and Fabrice Leggeri, Executive Director of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex).
