On 28 August 2014, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, attended the Western Balkans Summit, hosted by Angela Merkel, German Federal Chancellor, in Berlin. The aim of this meeting was to reiterate the EU's commitment to the European perspective of all Western Balkan countries and support for the accession process.
