Participation of Viviane Reding in the debate on the Future of Europe, in Amsterdam
Type: Complete press conference
On 14 March 2014, Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship, participated in the 49th citizens' dialogue in Amsterdam in presence of Eberhard van der Laan, Mayor of Amsterdam.
This lively debate focused strongly on the role of and the trust in policy makers in a European Union which, whilst diverse, is firmly based on a set of common values.
Dutch citizens are, as most citizens in Europe, concerned about the future and worried by the economic and financial crises. On this occasion, Viviane Reding called for a clear distinction between the debt and banking crisis in several Member States and the common currency which has been stable during the last years.
The Amsterdam Citizens' Dialogue is part of a series of over 50 debates in all 28 Member States. Since September 2012 President José Manuel Barroso and practically all Members of the European Commission have been holding discussions with citizens from all walks of life.
