Elysée Summit for Peace and Security in Africa: press statement by José Manuel Barroso

The bilateral meeting was held in the margins of the Elysée Summit for Peace and Security in Africa, in Paris.

||SOUNDBITE by José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, (in FRENCH) on his meeting with Macky Sall, President of Senegal:
saying that they talked about bilateral relations between Senegal and the EU, which are excellent;
saying that he listened to the President's analysis on the region; they talked about security challenges in the region, about the situation in Mali and also in the Central African Republic; saying that he ensured Macky Sall of the European Commission's will to support all efforts to maintain security; 500 millions euros extra support will be given to the African mission to restore order in the Central African Republic;
saying that they also talked about commerce and development; he congratulated Macky Sall for having been elected to coordinate the Economic Partnership Agreement; countries from CEDEAO agreed on a common external tariff; they want to conclude an agreement on an economic partnership; they made an offer and some points were discussed;
saying that it was a very constructive decision as usual; saying that he had already met Macky Sall on several occasions and he is someone who gives a vision of a modern and democratic Senegal but also an African leader who knows very well the questions linked to his region.
