On 17 November 2013, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, visited Mongolia. That was the first visit ever of a President of the European Commission to Mongolia.In Ulaanbaatar, José Manuel Barroso had an official lunch with Tsakhiagiyn Elbegdorj, President of Mongolia. He then visited Gandantegchinlen Monastery. At the National University of Mongolia, José Manuel Barroso was awarded a Doctorate Honoris Causa. He also participated in the opening ceremony of the 4th edition of the EU Film Festival.
