On 13 November 2013, Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, was in Yangon, in Myanmar/Burma, to take part in the opening reception of the first EU/Myanmar/Burma Task Force that would take place in Yangon and Naypyidaw from 13 to 15 November. Soe Thein, Minister of the President's Office of Myanmar/Burma, and Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Industry and Entrepreneurship, were also present at the reception.
The purpose of the Task Force is to provide comprehensive support to the transition in Myanmar/Burma by bringing together all of the tools and mechanisms – both political and economic (development aid, peace process support, investments) – available to the EU.
