||Soundbite by Johannes Hahn (in ENGLISH): We were discussing three main areas. First of all the measures that have been taken by the Romanian authorities to use the valuable investments to speed up the budget implementation and to boost absorption. The second was the progress on putting into place the corrective measures we have asked for to deblock the competitiveness program. The third topic was the negotiations on the future programming period, in particular the progress on the partnership agreement.

||Soundbite by Johannes Hahn (in ENGLISH): Minister has also outlined other steps that have been taken and could soon bring concrete results for example by ensuring adequate financing from the state budget to prevent interruption of work and a new system for direct payments to beneficiaries. With regards to the progress made on the competitiveness programme, I welcome the considerable efforts made by the Romanian authorities' programmes, not only to correct the path but also to ensure a more efficient and effective management system.

||Soundbite by Johannes Hahn (in ENGLISH): Referring to the negotiations of the next programming period, the Commission's services are in a permanent constructive dialogue with the Romanian authorities. We expect a first formal draft of the Partnership Agreement by the end of September, beginning of October. I understand that the Romanian authorities are also working hard for the preparation of the future operational programmes. The aim is to have a coherent development strategy and vision for Romania to ensure that the EU funds are allocated in the most effective way.
