Ville Itälä, Member of the European Court of Auditors, presented the Court’s Special Report No 3/2013 entitled "Have the Marco Polo programmes been effective in shifting traffic off the road?" at a press conference in Brussels on 16 July 2013. According to the report, the Marco Polo programmes, which are aimed at shifting freight transport from road to other modes of transport, have been ineffective, and should be discontinued in their present form.
