José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, paid his first official visit to Algeria on 6 and 7 July 2013.
On 7 July, he visited the Martyrs' Memorial in Algiers and met with Abdelmalek Sellal, Algerian Prime Minister, as well as with Abdelkader Bensalah, President of the Algerian Council of the Nation, and with Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa, Chairman of the Algerian National People's Assembly.
