Participation of Johannes Hahn in the opening of a bridge between Romania and Bulgaria

Type: Report   Référence: I079168   Durée: 04:08  Lieu: Vidin | Calafat
On 14 June 2013, Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC in charge of Regional Policy, participated in an historic moment between Bulgaria and Romania, and the neighbouring regions of Vidin and Calafat, when he attended the inaugural opening of a bridge linking the two countries in presence of Victor Ponta, Romanian Prime Minister, Plamen Oresharski, Bulgarian Prime Minister, and Neofit, Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. The recently named ‘New Europe Bridge’ received 106 million euro in EU investment and is only the second bridge along the countries' 630 km border. It is of vital strategic importance for the EU: a key link in a route that could stretch from Northern Europe, the Baltics, through Central Europe, Romania and Bulgaria, and eventually, to Greece.
