José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and six Members of the College of the EC went to Addis Ababa to participate in the 6th EU/African Union Commission (AUC) meeting with Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairwoman of the AUC.
The two colleges addressed a wide agenda covering peace and security, education, health, agriculture, trade, climate change and science and technology. The topics for their meeting also included a discussion on the EU/Africa joint Strategy adopted at the Lisbon Summit in December 2007, and an exchange on the post-2015 development framework.
This video shows extracts of a statement given by Karel De Gucht, Member of the EC in charge of Trade, and extracts of the clusters meetings and closing ceremony.

||Soundbite by Karel De Gucht (in ENGLISH): Trade was very prominent on the agenda because between now and next year we will have to finalise the economic partnership agreements and I think we made tremendous progress. So we agreed that we should aim at doing it within that time frame but there are still a number of problems to be resolved and we’ll continue working on that in the coming weeks. So I think this has been a very crucial meeting for advancing the EPAS.

||Soundbite by Erastus Mwencha, Deputy Chairman of the African Union Commission (AUC) (in ENGLISH): To me this sixth college to college meeting, has marked a new note in our partnership. A new note because it has brought us to another higher level of understanding each other. It has also revealed what was presented here this morning by our leaders President Barroso and Chairperson Zuma that our partnership has made a difference in terms of those things that we cherish most. Things to do with greater integration, supporting peace and security. And also in those other sectors like energy, human resource development, agriculture, trade and many others.

||Soundbite by Andris Piebalgs, Member of the EC in charge of Development (in ENGLISH): But I believe on the basis of our two Commissions, we could propose from our respective Member States, quite a strong and focused programme, from which the implementation of this programme, definitely we expect the people of Europe and Africa will benefit. So, again thank you very much for your hospitality, thank you for your professionalism and thank you for all the staff that has been advising us and supporting us during the whole college to college meeting.
