Štefan Füle, Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, and Vlora Çitaku, Kosovan Minister for European Integration, held a joint press briefing after their meeting on 24 April 2013 in Brussels.
They met at a crucial time for EU/Kosovo relations, a few days after the historic agreement reached in the EU-facilitated dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

||SOUNDBITE by Štefan Füle (in ENGLISH) saying that it is particularly important that the agreement was negotiated and agreed by the countries themselves as it is their agreement, not one 'imposed' by the EU; the European Commission submitted its proposal for negotiating directives for a Stabilisation and Association Agreement to the Council; they were able to do so after Kosovo worked hard to meet the short-term priorities identified in the EC's feasibility study on rule of law, public administration, protection of minorities and trade.

||SOUNDBITE by Štefan Füle (in ENGLISH) saying that in its conclusions of December 2012, the Council has committed itself to adopt the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) negotiating directives, provided its assessment of Kosovo's efforts was positive; the EC's report concludes that Kosovo has delivered; saying that he now hopes that the Council will share the EC's assessment and will adopt the negotiating directives.

||SOUNDBITE by Vlora Çitaku (in ENGLISH) saying that they are very glad that the EU-facilitated dialogue on normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia has concluded with an agreement; for Kosovo, this process has been a very difficult one, however one which the country needed to go through; the benefits of this agreement should be praised; for the first time in the history of negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia, they have indeed a mutually acceptable agreement.
