Štefan Füle, Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, was in Zagreb on 26 March 2013 to present the Commission's last Monitoring Report on Croatia's preparations for joining the EU to Ivo Josipović, President of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, Croatian Prime Minister, and the Croatian Government. In the Report, the Commission assesses that Croatia has completed the ten priority actions identified in the previous report in October 2012, and has shown the will and ability to fulfil all outstanding commitments in good time before accession. The Commission concludes that Croatia will be ready to join the European Union on 1 July 2013. During his visit in Zagreb, Štefan Füle also gave a lecture at VERN' University of Applied Sciences.

00:04:06 SOUNDBITE by Štefan Füle (in ENGLISH) saying that the report itself clearly underlines that Croatia has been able to deliver on reforms and its commitment in a credible, sustainable and irreversible way; and because of all those reasons they do not see the need for the monitoring mechanism to continue beyond the day of accession of Croatia to the European Union. 00:00:36
