On 19 March 2013, László Andor, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, travelled to the Netherlands and visited the Youth Desk (Jongerenloket), in Rotterdam.
The Youth Desk provides a one-stop service where young people can access the entire city's relevant youth focused services. It is part of Rotterdam's central policy for Youth at Risk, for young people aged 27 years and under.
Only the original language version is authentic and it prevails in the event of its differing from the translated versions.

||Soundbite by László Andor (in ENGLISH): For the Commission, it is very important to see the good practices in the EU in order to address youth unemployment which is really a dramatic problem in the EU.
||Soundbite by László Andor (in ENGLISH): Also in the Netherlands, there has been an increase in unemployment and it is also youth unemployment but still this country has managed its ways through the crisis with a lot of stability and also social cohesion.

||Soundbite by László Andor (in ENGLISH): Especially at the time when all EU countries will endeavour of implementing youth guarantees, which means to ensure that all young people under 25 would receive a quality offer of a job or a further learning opportunity or apprenticeship or traineeship within 4 months after leaving school or becoming unemployed. This is a very important commitment. This will be supported by new EU financial resources but it also requires a know-how, it also requires the right approach, the right method to find those people who are neither in employment or education or training to reach out to disadvantaged communities in cities or in neighbourhoods and this is where I believe the Rotterdam experience can also be a good example.
