||Statement by François Lecointre, Commander of the EU Training Mission in Mali (EUTM Mali), (in FRENCH) that the mission EUTM Mali is part of the global EU Sahel Strategy; although it is a military mission, it is also an important policy mission, since with a willingness to assist in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Malian armed forces, it is a question for the EU of helping to rebuild an essential pillar of the rule of law in the Republic of Mali; this mission has two main components: expertise, advice and auditing of the Malian armed forces, and the instruction and training of four battalions, i.e. half the Malian armed forces.
||Statement by Pēteris Ustubs, Director for West and Central Africa and Sahel Coordinator in the European External Action Service (EEAS), (in ENGLISH) on the African-led International Support Mission to Mali (AFISMA); on the EU initiatives, including EU development aid activities to Mali; on the political aspect of the Mali issue.
