||Statement (in ENGLISH) by José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC: I welcome the Croatian people to the EU. Welcome to the European family. You are now in fact become our 28th Member State and you can be proud of this. I'm sure European membership will bring many opportunities and benefits for Croatia. It will also enable Croatia to make a strong contribution to Europe's future. Croatia's upcoming accession is also a clear signal to the rest of South Eastern Europe that EU membership is within reach. And that reforms pay off. Croatia's accession is therefore good news for your country, good news for your neighbours, and good news for Europe as a whole.
