TIME DESCRIPTION DURATION
00:00:00 SOUNDBITE (French): Joseph DAUL, (EPP, FR) President of the EPP group: "If we don't organise ourselves on this front then we will be simply irrelevant on the world scene. We have been quite naive mainly because of the end of the Cold War. Look what is happening in the North of Africa, in Mali, look of the massacre of the citizens in Central Africa, surely that should make you realise that we have a duty and a role to play." 00:00:27
00:00:27 SOUNDBITE (French): Joseph DAUL, (EPP, FR) President of the EPP group: "We have the functioning of the justice system which had not been restructured on a European level after the entrance of several new member states. We need to tackle this challenge on a European dimension; we need to think it over if we have a look at certain member states." 00:00:21
00:00:48 SOUNDBITE (English): Hannes SWOBODA, (S&D, AU) , President of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament: "We need more European defence efforts, the U.S. is increasingly engaged in the Pacific region and less in Europe, so we have to take up our job. We can't be the old forgotten continent; we have to fight terrorism, because terrorism will stay in our neighbourhood for a long time." 00:00:20
00:01:08 SOUNDBITE (English): Hannes SWOBODA, (S&D, AU) , President of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament: "If now 6000 jobs are in danger with EADS that is partly because their National government don't cooperate and don't force and enhance European defence structures and European defence industries and that is scandalous." 00:00:17
00:01:25 SOUNDBITE (English): Guy VERHOFSTADT, (ALDE,BE), President of the group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe: "This system of contractual arrangement is the death of Europe if you continue with that. It shall create resistance in every member states where you are doing such a contractual arrangement, because it shall be seen as an intrusion from Europe in a specific national reform." 00:00:20
00:01:45 SOUNDBITE (German): Rebecca HARMS, (Verts/ALE, DE), President of the group of the Greens/European Free Alliance: "I'm very happy that now that the Special Forces raided the opposition offices in Kiev this Parliament has decided to respond." 00:00:20
00:02:05 SOUNDBITE (German): Rebecca HARMS, (Verts/ALE, DE), President of the group of the Greens/European Free Alliance: "Kiev shows up a major weakness of the European Union, the EU has struggled to follow a single line on Ukraine, those who wan't freedom and democracy in Ukraine I hope are not going to pay for the EU divisions on Russia." 00:00:33
00:02:38 SOUNDBITE (German): Rebecca HARMS, (Verts/ALE, DE), President of the group of the Greens/European Free Alliance: The given the fact that we don't have enough money to spend on social policy and to deal with youth unemployment in the European Union, the idea of funding drones and other equipment from the community budget leads me to wonder what planet we are living on, that is certainly not going to win people on the European idea." 00:00:29
00:03:07 SOUNDBITE (English): Martin CALLANAN, (ECR, UK), European Conservatives and Reformists Group: "European countries are not going to hand over command and control of their assets to an EU operational headquarters. Certainly Europe's biggest defence powers isn't, that is already been told to such an HQ. So we are left with de facto an intergovernmental arrangement where countries cooperate and pledge to defend each other interest, which sounds to me an awful lot like NATO." 00:00:26
