||SOUNDBITE (German), Doris PACK (EPP, DE), Chair of the EP Committee on Culture and Education: "Erasmus plus is the whole package for education, youth and sport in which everything can be found that is necessary for school, high school and university, when one wants to do a traineeship, when one wants to have leisure activities and when one wants to practice sports. All that things are in this programme and we have obtained for this programme in the next years 47 percent more than during the last seven years. It shows that the governments have understood as well how important it is"
||SOUNDBITE (German), Doris PACK (EPP, DE), Chair of the EP Committee on Culture and Education: "With the vote this morning we are making an end to the trialogue, that means that we have the negotiations between the Commission and the Council and the Parliament; I was the negotiating leader. I was in charge of the report and the chair of the Committee. We have had many and many discussions during several sittings and we have reached a compromise in the end, where, I would say, the Parliament obtained all that they wanted. We have even improved the text in the interest of the beneficiaries of the programme."
||SOUNDBITE (German), Doris PACK (EPP, DE), Chair of the EP Committee on Culture and Education: "An important point for us all was to keep the names, the trademarks and not to lose them. All these trademarks have their audience already. Comenius, the programme for school or Grundtvig for the adults, or Erasmus, or Leonardo. All these have their audience. We didn't want to lose them. We all said we should keep them. The Commission came with name proposal Erasmus for all. And Erasmus is not for everybody. That is why I said this is the last point we should clarify after all the others. We have considered the name and said it should be Erasmus plus."
||SOUNDBITE (German), Doris PACK (EPP, DE), Chair of the EP Committee on Culture and Education: "For me, what we financially achieved is a great success. Of course, one always wants more. But everybody should know that the European Union has no initiative rights and no own competence in terms of education and culture. We can only act there as a multiplicator. Education policy belongs to the nations, to the regions, to the local authorities. We can only complete what is already done in France or in Germany. I believe we can be satisfied. It is a success and it should be successfully used by the beneficiaries. I really hope that this programme in all its sides will be fully used.
