||SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Guillermo FARIÑAS, Sakharov Prize Winner 2010: "Day is awakening in Cuba now. Yesterday, and many days before that, we know that in the future too, there will still be arrests, there will be threats, there will be harassment, it will continue. What we have experienced has been a long road, a road full of bitterness, but also a road with great satisfactions. We have risked our lives for this cause and we will not hesitate to do that again. Because we believe that what is at stake here, in terms of our destiny, is not just a political or economic equation, but the basic foundation of life and human coexistence, namely freedom. "
||SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Guillermo FARIÑAS, Sakharov Prize Winner 2010: "With my hunger-strikes I contributed to the release of 114 political prisoners and their families, they were able to leave. But with their ultimate sacrifice, these martyrs to whom I just referred made it possible for me to be here today and that has put the regime that oppresses us in a difficult position in the eyes of international public opinion. Now, that is our power, a power based on our determination to exercise our rights all the way to the ultimate consequences."
||SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Guillermo FARIÑAS, Sakharov Prize Winner 2010: "I accept this award on behalf of all those who have made this journey possible in time and in space because I am firmly convinced that our struggle goes way beyond our own limitations as human beings. We want to bring back the sense of service to politics and that can only be achieved through this path that we have chosen, the path of non-violence and human rights."
||SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Guillermo FARIÑAS, Sakharov Prize Winner 2010: "God bless Europe! God bless Cuba, my homeland! And God bless the world in which we live! Thank you very much! My fist up represents the force of hope, democracy one day in Cuba, that is our hope! Thank you!"
