As Nikiforos DIAMANDOUROS is stepping down as Europe's Ombudsman on the 1st of October 2013, six eligible candidates were questioned today by the EP's Committee on Petitions. The hearings are designed to help MEPs decide who they should vote for during the July plenary session. The first to be questioned was Emily O'REILLY, currently the Irish national ombudsman. She was followed in the hearings by Dagmar ROTH-BEHRENDT a German member of the S&D group. The last one to participate in the afternoon session of the hearings was Francesco SPERONI, an Italian member of the EFD group. EP president Martin Schulz announced the names of the eligible candidates during the May plenary in Strasbourg.
