Vote on Health and safety requirements regarding the exposure of workers to the risks arising from physical agents (electromagnetic fields):
- extracts from the vote on the report by Elisabeth MORIN-CHARTIER (EPP, FR)
Lieu: Strasbourg, France - European Parliament

MEPs adopted new EU rules designed to improve the safety of workers most exposed to electromagnetic fields. The voted text, already informally agreed with the Council, incorporates new international limit values but allows sector-specific exceptions, e.g. for the army or magnetic resonance imaging in health care. Employers would have to assess and reduce risks. The rules would apply to all sectors but focus on workers who are exposed to high risks, for example in heavy industries such as steel or metal processing, or who work long hours close to television or radio broadcasting stations, radar installations or mobile phone pylons.
