JUan Fernando LOPEZ AGUILAR (S&D, SP) , EP Chair of the LIBE committee hosted the presentation of the film "Sentenced", by Carlos Alberto MARTINEZ, at the European Parliament, on May 29th 2013.
This story took place in La Plata prison where General Videla Dictatorship concentrated thousands of political prisoners . Those civilians were seperated from their leaders in two barracks of death, and executed without a trial They were SENTENCED.
Many relatives of these prisoners were abducted and disappeared.
This film shows imprisonment and death but also strggle for life and dignity. The fight for life, and the sense of humour were tools of resistance way beyond human understanding. 32 years after these horrific events , the killers were SENTENCED.
Only the original language version is authentic and it prevails in the event of its differing from the translated versions.
||SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Carlos Alberto MARTINEZ, Film Director," In this context thousands of citizens were arrested and imprisoned, but not only Argentinean citizens, many were from Europe as well. These thousands of prisoners, for the military, became a problem because they opposed the dictatorship and resisted the regime.
Those who were identified as the leaders of this resistance were separated in two barracks, which were called by the officers, the barracks of death. This is where we stayed and their plan which was communicated to us and which started on the aftermath of our arrival there, was to execute us , without trial and to persecute our families. To persecute them meant to abduct them and make sure they disappeared. "

||SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Juan Fernando AGUILAR, (S&D, SP), Chair of the LIBE Committee," it is a film production which puts light on the principles of Justice and freedom and the crimes that were perpetuated during the dark years of dictatorship of the disgraced General Vidella who just passed away , miserably , as he lived.
It is a tribute to all the political prisoners who suffered under this dictatorship; to them and their families, to those who disappeared in horrific conditions and who are always present in our memory of persons of good will in the European Union"
