During a high level visit to Malawi on 7 March 2013, Andris Piebalgs, Member of the EC in charge of Development, and José Graziano da Silva, Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, met with important stakeholders of the civil society and the private sector. They also had a meeting with Ken Lipenga, Malawian Minister for Finance, and held a joint press conference.
