On 28 February 2013, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, travelled to Dublin and visited the Trinity College where he held a debate with students and called on the young people of Ireland to be fully involved in the growing debate about shaping the future of the EU. On this occasion, José Manuel Barroso also received the Gold Medal for Outstanding Contribution to Public Discourse.
