00:00:10 Arrival to the press conference. 00:00:20
00:00:30 SOUNDBITE (English) Martin SCHULZ, EP President: "On which is concerning the access to the market of the EU from products produced by settlers in settlements, this is one of the most delicate and controversial questions. There is no conclusion for the time being, but you all know that the overwhelming majority of the EP, and this is a question across political tendencies, not linked not only to right or left positions, are reluctant to the settlements policy of the outgoing government in Israel. And therefore the question of the import of products produced by settlers in settlements considered by the EU as not legal settlements is an item on the agenda. But I must repeat, it is a controversial debate but we don't have a final conclusion". 00:01:03
00:01:33 SOUNDBITE (English) Shimon PERES, President of Israel: "We took out the settlements from Gaza. Now, can you explain to me why are they shooting the Israeli villages? Why? What for? What is the reason? I am not asking a rhetoric question. This is a question that is being raised by Israelis. They say if we continue to do it in the West Bank, we want to be sure that the West Bank too will not become a basis of terror. It's a legitimate question". 00:00:39
00:02:12 SOUNDBITE (English) Shimon PERES, President of Israel: "The settlements were approved by the Israeli Government, and the people don't realise that the whole Israeli settlements in the West Bank is spread in 2% of the West Bank. And once we shall have peace, we can handle it. Now there are illegal acts of settlements of few people namely trying to insult Palestinians or to burn their trees. It's illegal by us, we don't need any sanctions. The Israeli government arrest those people." 00:00:51
00:03:03 SOUNDBITE (English) Shimon PERES, President of Israel: "I believe the time is available now to re-open the negotiations with the Palestinians. The beginning is there, the solution is agreed. We have to handle the 'in-between' the two situations. And we should handle it. You want to negotiate? please (do so). But don't try to intervene on an issue one-sidedly. It would be a mistake". 00:00:35
00:03:38 SOUNDBITE (English) Shimon PERES, President of Israel: "I suggest that instead of looking for foreign help, let's the UN support a mission of the Arab League to stop the bloodshed, to build a transitional government and enable election and preventing Syria from falling to pieces. I mentioned one thing, which bothers everybody, the Europeans, the Americans… What to do with the tons of chemical weapons, it's a very complicated issue". 00:00:39
