On 12 February 2013, Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Industry and Entrepreneurship, launched in Brussels, together with Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, Member of the EC in charge of Research, Innovation and Science, and Janez Potočnik, Member of the EC in charge of Environment, the European Innovation Partnership (EIP) on raw materials, bringing together Member States and other stakeholders to help make Europe a world leader in raw materials exploration, extraction, processing, recycling and substitution by 2020. On this occasion, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, gave some opening remarks and presented the expectations of the European Commission.
