||SOUNDBITE (English) Martin SCHULZ, president of the European Parliament, "The position of the EP is absolutely clear. Cyprus deserves the same treatment in the frame of the problems that the country is facing as other countries in the Eurozone and in the EU, this is the position of the overwhelming majority of Members of the EP and whatever we can do to support the country to overcome the problems, the EP will contribute too.
We discussed about the Council of today, about the future of the EMU. The debate will continue tonight on the basis of the proposals of Herman Van Rompuy and we spoke about the rejection of the multiannual Financial Framework draft by the EP yesterday and w discussed which kind of negotiations are ahead , where are the possible compromise, what we could both decide , the Cyprus government and the EP do to contribute to a fair and just deal at the end of the negotiations but I underlined that one precondition of the EP is not negotiable , we need a balanced budget for 2013 because if we don't have a balance of the deficit in 2013 we will put in force the 1st of January 2014 the MFF which is based on wrong figures and that we can't do and we will not do."
||SOUNDBITE (English) by Nicos ANASTASIADES, President of Cyprus," First as regards the Cyprus question, we are looking forward to see how we can be much more constructive in the near future when we are ready to because now we are facing the financial crisis and second is that we are working towards reaching a final agreement towards the efforts with the Troïka to reach the MoU and that we are decided to implement any or any of the terms we are going to agree."
