Much more must be done this year to cut unemployment, thoroughly democratise EU economic governance and ensure that structural reforms foster growth, says Parliament's opinion, voted Thursday, on the European Commission’s Annual Growth Survey of the EU. This survey kicks off this year’s European Semester process of economic policy coordination among EU member states.
The House adopted the resolution, drafted by the Internal Market Committee. Single market governance should also be made an integral part of the Semester, says the text drafted by Andreas Schwab (EPP, DE). The text demands the Commission to prepare an annual European Semester report on single market integration, including country-specific recommendations.
The resolution was approved by 527 votes to 30, with 31 abstentions.
