Meeting today in Brussels, the European Ministers in charge of Employment and Social Policy discussed improvement of the 1996 directive on posting of workers for service provision. Progress was made although Member States remained divided today over two key measures; the first, on national administrative requirements and control measures (Article 9), and the second on joint and several liability of subcontractors for compliance with minimum wages (Article 12) in the construction sector. Talking to journalists afterwards, László Andor, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, said he urged the Member States to find a rapid agreement on the proposal to maintain the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund during the 2014-2020 period. The Fund has demonstrated its added value in terms of targeting support to help workers hit by large-scale redundancies to find new jobs, he added.
