A Decision to modernise and improve EURES, the pan-EU job search network, has been adopted by the European Commission. The Decision will help to increase mobility of workers across Member States and pave the way for a true European labour market. The EURES reform aims to make it easier for jobseekers to contact employers looking for particular skills, to focus on sectors and occupations with skills shortages and to support targeted mobility schemes for young people.

00:00:05 SOUNDBITE by László Andor, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (In English) saying that: The European Commission has taken a decision to improve EURES which is our job's search network. This is an important decision especially because, also in the recent period, unemployment continue to increase in the EU; it's approaching 25 million and behind this figure we also see great imbalances, there are some member states where unemployment and especially youth unemployment is unacceptably high but there are also other parts of the EU where the economy is more stable and dynamic and with many vacancies. We need to do more to connect these parts; we need to do more to improve the transparency and efficiency of the European labour market. EURES will certainly help in that. This is a network which is already helping a large number of jobseekers; annually this amount to 50.000 which is a significant number but we want to use it even more and even better, supporting more people and especially the youth because we know the youth is more mobile than people in general and the unemployment hit the young generation more than the European workers in general terms. Why we believe EURES will work better? Because we have improved the system, also the coverage will be wider, also the private employment services will be including in this system and we also believe that the website will be more user-friendly. 00:01:43
