||Soundbite by Siim Kallas, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Transport (in ENGLISH): In these times of economy downturn, there is a great pressure on national budgets of the Member States. Each country is going to prioritize its own projects, not trans-European ones, that is why the self makes such sense. Targeting investments in essential infrastructure will help to create jobs in areas such of construction, mechanical engineering and business services. They will also boost growth and competitiveness. It is estimated that infrastructure investments create 800.000 jobs for every 1 billion US dollar in new investment spending.
